Jimmie Findlater
Written by Gordon Speirs, while waiting at an airport on May 17th, 1973, on his way to a workshop somewhere in Omaha. The tune is about a Scottish pipe band marching manager (Drum Major), Jimmie Findlater, who had trouble keeping in step while marching with his pipes and drums band.
The music highlights the "skip steps" Jimmie would make in order to get back into step with the band. To represent Findlater's shuffling steps, the repeating, descending phrase: 'E, D, doubling on D, C, and B', represented him shuffling his feet while trying to keep his balance down a hill, while marching in step, and carrying the band's trophies.
